Google Earth

I think one of the most fun and most valuable things I have ever done with ELLs is Google Earth. The kids were so excited to find their homes both in the US and in their home countries. Latitude and longitude took on a whole new excitement for them! We have taken virtual field trips, plotted historical journeys, and visited other lands-- all from the comfort of our classroom.

Google Earth is a free download. Click here for the link-- GOOGLE EARTH. For a step by step handout, download here!

And a how to slideshow! Happy Googling!

Need to make a PDF?

Ever need to email a document that you do not want changed or altered?I use Cute PDF maker to create PDFs for a number of things. For example when I have students saving Word docs to a file, I will frequently have them convert the doc to a pdf, then save to their hard drive. I use pdfs to save and email forms. You can get cute PDF as a free download by clicking here-CUTE PDF.

A brief tutorial on how to install and use CUTE PDF is located here-- TUTORIAL.

FREE TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES FOR YOUR CLASSROOM!

Why Integrate Technology into the ESL Classroom?

Why try? Some of us don't have computers or the ones we have are not adequate, some of our students don't read in English very well-- if at all. And sometimes technology can be pretty challenging-- who has time?

Below is a video of just some facts about our changing world. Like it our not, our society is becoming increasingly digital. Our students will be facing a world that we never thought about-- unless we were Trekkies! I invite you to check the video out-- and just ponder.

Using a Portaportal-- yes you can!!

A portaportal is a free bookmarking tool, useful especially for teachers. I have a portaportal at http://guest.portaportal.com/rcsesl where I have located and organized a number of resources. You can organize your portaportal according to subject area, grade level, or even by student names or numbers in order to personalize web activities for the students.

I recommend that every teacher set up a portaportal. Here's the link to our portaportal. CLICK HERE!! It' s easy and above all--- it is FREE!!!! Look below for a slide show on how to set up a portaportal. Oh-- and happy bookmarking!
